Negative Characteristics of Some GT Kids

Unfortunately, some of those some elements that set GT kids apart from the crowd can have a downside. Take, for example, the perfectionist: On the surface, perfectionism sounds great. Who doesn't want to be perfect? However, imagine never being able to finish anything, because it's not perfect.
Some of the more negative aspects of giftedness can include: Uneven mental development in different cognitive areas; underachievement; nonconformity; interpersonal difficulties with less-able peers; self-doubt; excessive self-criticism; excessive sensitivity; perfectionism; frustration and anger; depression; rebelliousness; defiance; resistance to authority (Davis, 2006, p. 30).
