What's With the Label?
At one point in your academic career, your teacher or counselor pulled you aside and gave you a bunch of tests for gifted students that measured things like your IQ, your academic potential, your logic and/or creativity. Perhaps you're a leader in your class, or you get good grades without really having to do much about it. Or perhaps you aren't much of a leader, or you really hate school.
The biggest thing to understand about being gifted is that you are unique. You are an individual. There are multiple characteristics of gifted kids, from having high academic ability or strong artistic talent, to being overexcitable or prone to questioning authority.
So, why the label? It simply means you have the potential -- with support from your teachers, parents and school -- to achieve greatness. Will you? That's your choice.
