Social and Emotional Needs of GT Kids
Researchers have identified multiple social and emotional needs that may manifest among gifted students, from feelings of boredom and frustration in a slow classroom to the stress of living up to others' expectations. Mendaglio (2003) points out the tendency of some gifted students to be emotionally volatile due to heightened sensitivity and perceptions, while others find escape in underachievement (Jackson & Snow, 2004).
It's the job of parents, teachers and counselors, working together with gifted students, to guide them through the rough patches. In this section, you will find a description of some issues common to GT students, as well as suggestions for working through these problems.
